From the Bronx to Latin America: A Black Woman Builds the Largest Demo Day for Women in the Region

Mexico City – June 2025 — Born in the Bronx and shaped by the corridors of North Carolina A&T, Harvard & Y Combinator, entrepreneur and investor Chandell Stone is no stranger to building against the odds. Now, she is making history as the founder of The Big PitcHer — the first and largest demo day for women entrepreneurs in Mexico.

Now in its fourth year and with hundreds of expected attendees, The Big PitcHer returns to Universidad Iberoamericana (IBERO) in Mexico City on June 13, 2025, bringing together 5-+ women founders from across the Americas, dozens of investors, and some of the most forward-thinking corporate partners in the region. This year’s event is co-owned and co-led by Karla Huerta Valdez, CEO of APB Sistemas and one of Mexico’s most respected business leaders and investors.

“This isn’t just about inclusion — it’s about shifting the center of power,” says Stone. “We’ve come to Latin America not to extract, but to build coalition — with Mexican entrepreneurs, banks like Kapital, and institutions like IBERO — to create something visionary and enduring.”

A Track Record That Speaks for Itself

Unlike traditional startup competitions, The Big PitcHer is vertical- and stage-agnostic, giving the mic to both high-growth tech startups and traditional businesses. And the results speak volumes.

Alumni from past cohorts have gone on to launch in major retailers like Walmart and Sephora, join Techstars,  and participate in  programs like MITSolve and  Bank of America Breakthrough Lab.

A Coalition of Power and Purpose

This year’s Demo Day is backed by a powerful coalition of partners including Kapital Bank, Stripe, Blackbox, Velawood Law, and Tiendanube — organizations committed to equity-driven innovation. The event also features speakers and judges like:

  • Karla Berman, Shark Tank México

  • Adriana Tortajada, Managing Partner at 1200VC

  • Patricia DeSantis, President of Mujeres Invirtiendo

  • Itzel Villa Salinas, Director of Entrepreneurship at Coppel Foundation

“This is not performative — it’s structural,” says Huerta. “We’re not just spotlighting women for one day, we’re building long-term infrastructure to help them scale and stay in the game.”

A Political Statement in a Global Moment

In a time when anti-Blackness, nationalism, and wealth inequality are reshaping global markets, The Big PitcHer is not just an event — it’s a message. It shows what’s possible when women of color from different countries, languages, and economic realities come together to build capital and community on their own terms.

“Too often, we’re told to fit into ecosystems that were never built for us,” says Stone. “This is about expanding the definition of success — and building something so visible it can’t be ignored.”
